HARLEY-DAVIDSON 2006 MDA CONTRIBUTIONS REACH $5 MILLION Effort raises cumulative 26 year total to $60 million Monday September 25, 2006 - Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Press Release
Harley-Davidson raised $5 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in 2006, bringing cumulative amount raised for MDA to $60 million since 1980. The announcement was made during the annual Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon.
Harley-Davidson Motor Company President and Chief Operating Officer Jim McCaslin presented the $5 million on behalf of those who raised funds for MDA. "Harley-Davidson's family of dealers, suppliers, riders and employees represent thousands nationwide who are working together to bring about the day when no one suffers from neuromuscular disease," said McCaslin during the Telethon broadcast. "Through our collective efforts we grow closer everyday to finding a cure."
Joining McCaslin and representing the top fundraising Harley-Davidson dealer events were Brian Bentley from Brian's Harley-Davidson in Langhorne, Pennsylvania; Dennis & Carol Schaeffer from Schaeffer's Harley-Davidson, Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania; John and Ruth Bartuska representing Kutter Harley-Davidson in Janesville, Wisconsin; Ken and Georgeanne Evans from Mitchell's Modesto and Jamestown Harley-Davidson in California; and Bob and Dev Johnson representing Cycle Connection Harley-Davidson of Joplin, Missouri.
Harley-Davidson fundraising activities for the Muscular Dystrophy Association took place over the 12-month period leading up to the Telethon and included pledge rides, dealer fundraisers, motorcycle raffles, Black and Blue Ball fundraising events and pin sales.
Harley-Davidson has been a national sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association since 1980. The funds raised support life-saving research, comprehensive medical care for children and adults with neuromuscular disease, and MDA summer camps.
